A Superior Room on the second floor, the Sydney Room is named after the Town of Sydney the largest settlement in Cape Breton, which was founded by J.W.F. DesBarres. It was designed along Georgian lines in honour of the British home secretary Lord Sydney.

The Sydney room is a wonderful retreat on the second storey with two Regency style lounge chairs for relaxing. This Superior Room includes a Queen bed, a mahogany writers desk as well as Victorian antiques including a bureau and a parlour table circa 1890.

Sable Room
A Superior Room on the second floor, the Sable Room is named after picturesque Sable Island, which lies off the east coast of Nova Scotia. Following the siege of Quebec, J.W.F. was ordered by the Admiralty to conduct a survey of the Island in 1767. DesBarres spent two years on Sable and had several harrowing experiences. His survey was published in the Atlantic Neptune, which stood for over a century as the authoritative survey of the area.

The Sable room is also a wonderful retreat on the second storey overlooking the deck and gazebo. This Superior Room includes a King bed (or 2 singles if needed), a hand carved dresser circa 1880, Victorian parlour chairs, an antique marble gilded table and a Regency style desk for corresponding.

A Premier Room on the second floor, the Wolfe Room is named after Major-General James Wolfe, commander of the British expedition that took Ft. Louisbourg and Quebec in 1759. J.W.F. DesBarres accompanied Wolfe at the battle on the Plains of Abraham. DesBarres contributed to the survey of the St. Lawrence and the military plan for the engagement. It is reported that Wolfe gave DesBarres his pocket watch as he died and that it hung in the Manor for many years.

The spacious and light filled Wolfe Room features an elegant sitting area with both a Victorian arm chair and a Regency style chair, settee and coffee table for you to relax from your touring. This Premier Room includes a King bed, decorative fireplace and mantle, marble topped dresser and antique rosewood vanity with walnut accents.

A Premier Room on the second floor, the Cook Room is named after explorer Captain James Cook who was the first European to visit Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and much of the South Pacific. J.W.F. DesBarres and Cook sounded the St. Lawrence River together in preparation of the siege of Quebec, and also surveyed much of Newfoundland. Claims have been made that DesBarres provided Cook with several insights into the science of surveying and navigation that were to be invaluable to Cook in his later voyages.

The spacious Cook Room features a gorgeous pineapple four poster Queen bed for a relaxing evening. This Premier Room includes a sitting area with a velvet love seat, two antique tapestry chairs and an antique leather topped coffee table to enjoy a morning coffee and a good book or a bottle of champagne.

A Deluxe Room on the third floor, the Argos Room is named after Cape Argos, a remarkable red cape that extends into Chedabucto Bay at the eastern passage to the Gut of Canso (Canso Strait). From the top of sea-ravaged cliffs, one achieves beautiful vistas of the Bay, Isle Madam, Cape Breton Island and Canso in the distance.

Nestled among the Manor's dormers on the third storey, the Argos Room is an intimate retreat. This Deluxe Room includes a Queen bed, a sitting area with a Regency armchair & rocker and a Duncan Fife parlour table.

A Deluxe Room on the third floor, the Denys Room is named after Nicholas Denys, a leading Acadian businessman whose local brewing operation in the mid-1600s is believed by many to have been the first commercial beer making operation in North America. Our Chedabucto Bay Brewing Company housed in The Rare Bird Pub honours this tradition.

Also nestled in the Manor’s third storey dormers, the Denys Room features a Queen Anne ladies writing desk for sending postcards to friends and family. This Deluxe Room includes a Queen bed and a beautiful Mahogany Regency mirror and nightstand.

A Deluxe Room on the third floor, the Intervale Room is named after the valley formed by the Milford Haven River that flows into Guysborough Harbour. Early Acadian settlers established productive farms in the area in the early 1600s. This is an excellent fishing area, particularly for brown trout and Atlantic salmon.

Also located on the third floor, the Intervale Room also provides guests with a quiet refuge in the Manor. This Deluxe Room includes a Queen bed, an Arts & Crafts style desk for writing and a matching Regency style mahogany dresser and dressing table.
